Calcium silicate makes wonderful bricks that are attractive, durable and strong, with a long and proven heritage. They have been used successfully both for internal and external walls since 1898 throughout the UK, Europe, the USA and Asia, and can be found in many of the world's best known buildings.

Externally, calcium silicate bricks are used for all types of brickwork; as high-quality facing bricks, in foundations and as common bricks. The uniform shape and sharp arrises (edges) of Esk bricks add greatly to the bricks’ decorative qualities and assist in efficient laying. Each Esk brick is frogged on one side (an indentation created during the manufacturing process); frogless bricks can be provided to order. The colour and texture gives a maximum of light reflection without glare, making them a perfect solution for external walls of courts and courtyard areas. Esk common bricks are especially suited where a painted finish is required as there are no sulphates to attack paint chemically. They are also good for rendering onto for the same reason.

Esk calcium silicate bricks can be used below damp-proof courses and wetting and drying conditions are unlikely to have any very important weathering effects. Also freezing conditions have little, if any, effect on their strength. Due to calcium silicate bricks being practically free from soluble salts, the problem of efflorescence is not experienced. The features of calcium silicate bricks make them a perfect solution for high quality, impressive external brickwork, brickwork that is durable, decorative and strong. All calcium silicate bricks can be plastered and rendered using regular products.

Internally, calcium silicate bricks are ideal. Their regularity of shape and superior decorative features remove any need for plastering and they are very easy to maintain, being easily washed down and cleaned, eliminating the on-going expense of recurring decoration.
